MY ORISON

by FOLAKEMI ALO’

I want to live –

 In a world,

Where there are no guns and violence,

But peace reigns in the quiet

Like waters on a Spring morning.

A world,

Where justice is not bought with blood,

And souls are not drowned in the flood,

Of havoc and tempest.

Yes!  I want to live!–

In a world,

Where the labor of our ancestors’ past

Aren’tconcealed in the sea of batons and gases

Struck with a match and scorched to ashes.

These are,

The wonkyaspirations I tell the Lord,

Tears in the socket as they roll down

Strong as my faith. Yet, without doubts

Our chariots would come with the sword of Redemption.

Still –

I want.
