Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, announced on Tuesday that the company is planning to produce 200,000 units of its electric pickup truck, Cybertruck, annually. Tesla had previously stated that it had the capacity to manufacture over 125,000 Cybertrucks each year, with Musk suggesting that it could increase production to 250,000 by 2025.
The deliveries of the highly anticipated pickup truck will begin on November 30, almost four years after Musk unveiled it in Los Angeles. At the launch event, the vehicle’s “armor glass” window was accidentally shattered by a metal ball during a demonstration. In a recent podcast, Musk expressed how difficult it was to manufacture the Cybertruck.
He emphasized that designing the vehicle was easy compared to the production process. Musk stated that Tesla is aiming to produce 200,000 Cybertrucks annually, but it may be possible to manufacture more. However, he also expressed concerns about the challenges of ramping up production and making it profitable, saying that the company “dug its own grave with Cybertruck”.
