Tobi Amusan to Lead Team Nigeria as Flagbearer at Paris 2024 Olympics

Nigeria’s Queen of Track and World Record holder in the 100m Women’s hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has been named Team Nigeria flagbearer for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, reports BSNSports.com.ng. This honor marks the first time in 20 years, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games, that an athlete from athletics has been chosen for this role.

In addition to Amusan’s selection, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) announced that badminton star Anuoluwapo Opeyori will serve as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris.

 

Nigeria is scheduled to compete in athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, football, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wrestling at the summer Olympics from July 26 to August 11, 2024. A total of 88 athletes will represent the nation in various sports.

 

Amusan, renowned for her stellar performances in the 100m hurdles, will lead the Nigerian contingent during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony. This recognition highlights her achievements and her status as one of Nigeria’s most prominent athletes on the global stage.
