President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board to thoroughly investigate the mistreatment faced by the Super Eagles at a Libyan airport and take appropriate action against those responsible.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed relief at the safe return of the Super Eagles to Nigeria following their ordeal. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) decided to withdraw from a scheduled match on Tuesday in response to the team’s distressing experience with the Libyan authorities.

“President Bola Tinubu, deeply concerned by the mistreatment of the Super Eagles of Nigeria at a Libyan airport, welcomes their safe return to Nigeria,” the statement read. He emphasized the need for CAF’s Disciplinary Board to conduct a comprehensive review and propose necessary sanctions for those who violated the organization’s rules and regulations.

The President commended the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in swiftly addressing the incident and ensuring the players’ return. He also praised the team for maintaining their morale despite the challenging circumstances, highlighting the unifying power of football and condemning the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed during the incident.

“President Tinubu urges all football enthusiasts and administrators to come together to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” the statement concluded
