The Federal High Court (FHC) has officially launched its electronic affidavit (e-affidavit) system, aiming to enhance convenience for litigants and other users.
In June, Chief Judge John Tsoho incorporated e-affidavits into the court’s practice directions, aligning with global best practices in the judiciary.
During a facility inspection on Friday, Godwin Longe, Deputy Chief Registrar of the Lagos Federal High Court, clarified that while the new system currently processes only non-case-related affidavits, affidavits supporting cases will continue to be handled manually due to their specific requirements. “Affidavits filed to support a case will still be handled manually,” Longe noted.
He added that the e-affidavit system allows individuals to obtain certain types of affidavits without physically visiting the court.
Agwu Charles, Head of the court’s ICT department, elaborated on the public’s access to the new system. “Affidavits for issues such as loss of items, age declaration, and change of name can now be processed online via portal.fhc.gov.ng by following the provided instructions,” Charles explained, encouraging users to take advantage of the platform for added convenience.
