The Emmy Academy Continues to Unite Nations, Check Winners At The 76th

During the Emmy Awards on Sunday, Hollywood celebrated a diverse lineup of nominees and winners, honoring Latino, LGBTQ+, and Japanese talent and stories. Disney’s “Shogun” won the best drama series award, with Japanese actors Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada winning best actress and actor, respectively. The series also received 14 trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys.

 

“The Bear” actor Liza Colon-Zayas, a standout among Latino winners, won the best supporting actress category, beating industry giants Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett. Actor and comedian John Leguizamo highlighted the Hollywood opportunity gaps he has faced and emphasized the need for more stories from excluded groups.

 

Mexican actor Diego Luna, a presenter at the ceremony, spoke in Spanish, emphasizing the importance of the Spanish language in the United States. Greg Berlanti, recipient of the Governors Award, was recognized for his profound contribution to the arts and science of television.

 

The awards also recognized the achievements of other diverse individuals, including actor Nava Mau, who became the first transgender woman to be nominated in the best supporting actress category. The Emmy Awards, the highest honors in television, were presented at a live ceremony in downtown Los Angeles.
