Sony posts 73% jump in Q2 profit,preserves outlook

Sony reported a 73% increase in its group operating profit for the July-September quarter, driven by robust sales in its gaming and network business, as stated in a report released on Friday.

 

The company, which operates in various sectors including music, movies, games, and chips, has maintained its profit forecast at 1.31 trillion yen ($8.51 billion) for the current fiscal year ending in March. This forecast aligns closely with the 1.34 trillion yen estimate from 24 analysts surveyed by LSEG.

 

During the July-September quarter, operating profit surged to 455.1 billion yen, up from 263 billion yen during the same period last year. Notably, profit from its gaming and network service business nearly tripled, reaching 138.8 billion yen.

 

This growth follows the release of an upgraded version of its flagship console, which offers enhanced graphics and was launched on November 7. ($1 = 152.8700 yen)
