The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is advocating for a safer online environment as it prepares for this year’s cybersecurity awareness month, according to a statement by NITDA’s Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Mrs. Hadiza Umar, released on Monday.
NITDA highlighted that it has partnered with CISCO to provide training in basic and intermediate cybersecurity skills, benefiting 3,242 individuals. The agency emphasized the importance of educating the public about cybersecurity, especially during Cybersecurity Awareness Month held annually in October.
For the 2023 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, NITDA has organized a series of programs to raise awareness about cybersecurity threats and the steps necessary to safeguard individuals in the expanding digital landscape. The theme for this year’s celebration is “See Yourself in Cyber,” underscoring that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility. The primary goal is to promote the adoption of secure cyber practices, with an emphasis on the public’s willingness to accept, understand, and apply these security measures to protect themselves.
NITDA is collaborating with key stakeholders to conduct grassroots awareness campaigns and educate the public about cyber threats and protective measures. Additionally, NITDA and O-range Cybersecurity Training Service Limited recently conducted cybersecurity training in Ilorin, Kwara State, with the participation of over 5,000 youths from various states.
The statement encourages both private and public sector organizations and the general public to join efforts in ensuring the safety and security of the Nigerian online space. Together, they aim to make the Nigerian cyberspace and the global digital environment secure for all.
