On Monday, Meta Platforms announced that it would temporarily close its social media platform, Threads, in Turkey starting from April 29th. This decision was made to comply with an interim order from the Turkish competition authority. The closure of Threads won’t affect other social media platforms and services of Meta such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in Turkey.
In the previous month, the competition authority of Turkey had imposed an interim measure on Meta’s parent company, Facebook, to prevent data sharing between Instagram and Threads platforms. This measure was imposed as part of an investigation into possible abuse of the company’s dominant market position.
