Chinese EV manufacturer GAC Aion’s Hyper brand announced on Friday that it has completed the research and development phase of all-solid-state batteries, which will debut in Hyper cars in 2026. These solid-state batteries have an impressive energy density of 400 watt hours per kilogram, providing a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).
Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries that use flammable liquid electrolytes, solid-state batteries offer better safety, a longer lifespan, and faster charging. However, the high costs, intricate manufacturing processes, and limited raw material availability are the main obstacles to their widespread adoption.
