Bolt, a ride-hailing company, has launched its services in Cairo, Egypt, which puts it in direct competition with rivals like Uber and inDrive. Haitham Mansour, Bolt Egypt’s Country Manager, confirmed the move in a statement on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Bolt intends to expand its market presence in Africa, which is why it is making this strategic move. To attract more drivers, Bolt is offering a half-price discount for a six-month period, which is fully covered by the company, and has reduced its commission rate. Bolt recently expanded into Zimbabwe and Botswana as well.
Haitham said, “Our lower commission rates ensure higher earnings for our drivers, while also offering customers attractive service fees.” Bolt started operating in South Africa in 2016, and with the addition of Egypt, it has entered 15 markets in Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda.
